POST Fest 2022 is here!
After a two year COVID hiatus, Post. Festival is returning to Indianapolis on September 9th/10th, 2022. In its third year, this international festival will move from its previous location at the Irving Theater to the Vogue Theater.
Founder and organizer Derek Vorndran “Post. Festival is as much about community and respect and support as it is about music and culture. It is a celebration both for fans and artists, an opportunity to come together and revel in a scene that has built itself from within to the point of global presence, without the aid of commercial status.”
Post. Festival celebrates the niche quasi-genre of “post-rock” a group of artists somewhere between shoegaze and post-punk. Often all instrumental, the music features ethereal swells and ambient noises. Post-rock has an international reach, and Post. Festival is no exception. This year’s headliners include some of the biggest names in the genre including Nothing (Philadelphia), Pelican (Chicago), and Boris (Tokyo).
Filling out this year’s lineup are: Pianos Become The Teeth, Junius, The End of the Ocean, Coastlands, Isolation Drills, Driving Slow Motion, Glassing, ROOMS, Frayle, Colin Phils, Glacier, Brave Arrows, Black Flak and The Nightmare Fighters, & Onus.
MFT: Why is Indy a great location for Post. Festival?
Vorndran: I believe the fan base is here and there's a lot Indiana offers. Hosting a festival in Indianapolis has the perks and economic cost saving when it comes to traveling. When compared to other surrounding cities, the lower cost of booking a hotel or Airbnb, a diverse and growing food scene, and the abundance of top rated breweries and distilleries all around… Hosting such a unique and niche music genre focused festival, I think it's a great and convenient location. And being that we are the only post rock and music adjacent festival in North America, it can only continue to grow.
MFT: Post. Festival had two great years and then missed two years. How did COVID affect the festival?
Vorndran: As with any industry, it really killed our growth and brand having to be cancelled for the last two years. There isn't much we could post or talk about without having an actual event to support. Post. was really growing and attendance was up each year, and we had a really great lineup booked for 2020. We're basically having to start over again as if this is the first time we're doing this festival. But the response has been great and we're extremely happy with the lineup we've been able to put together for this year.
MFT: We know you’re excited for all the bands, but who really stands out this year?
Vorndran: This is like trying to pick your favorite kid, as this festival is highly curated and the bands we book are bands we really want to see and hope other people do too. But a couple to highlight I'm really excited for. We have Boris from Japan playing and they are such a unique band and have a diverse catalog of music they've put out. Nothing is also a personal favorite band of mine and this would be the first time I will get to see them. Pianos Become The Teeth just put out a new album called 'Drift', and it's amazing… But like I mentioned, I want to see every band!
This year’s Post. will feature two Indiana artists, longtime local favorites ROOMS, as well as new startup Isolation Drills.
Thursday September 8th Post. Festival ticketholders are invited to a free Post. Pre-Party at Black Circle. This party will feature Indiana bands Shipwreck Karpathos and Spero.
Post. Festival Day 1 will begin at 5 pm on Friday, September 9, and Day 2 will begin at 3 pm on Saturday, Sept. 10.
