Get to Know Indy’s New ‘Select Few Sessions’ Series
Indianapolis resident Troy Freeman has a passion for discovering local music.
“It’s really cool to see someone doing something that’s really impressive who lives right next to you, and they’re also willing to talk to you about their craft,” Freeman says.
With this in mind, the longtime music lover has decided to start the Select Few Sessions series, aimed at giving visibility to talented local artists while providing audiences with the chance to interact with said artists in a more intimate setting. In addition to giving lesser-known artists a platform, the series will also take citizens on a tour through Indianapolis as each session will be hosted in a new location that holds a special place to the hearts of native Naptowners.
Originally from North Carolina, Freeman (a.k.a. TroyTrackSelect) moved to Indianapolis in August 2021 and immediately began exploring all the city had to offer musically.
“My first impression was just how connected everyone was to each other,” he says of Indy’s music community.
After welcoming artists onto his former podcast (Back on Track) for a brief Q&A, Freeman eventually decided he would rather just start a new show entirely devoted to spotlighting local artists. Herein, Select Few Sessions was born.
On Thursday, Sept. 22, the very first installment of Select Few Sessions will take place at Listen Here, featuring an interview and performance from Indianapolis rapper Fre$co. Those interested are welcome to attend the public session, which will also be recorded and available for streaming at a later date.
While details on forthcoming Select Few Sessions have yet to be released, Freeman says the event flyer for Fre$co’s episode gives a few hints as to where upcoming sessions may be taking place.
“On the flyer, there are dots, which serve as sneak peaks as to where we might be doing the next show,” Freeman says. “It’s really just about doing shows in places that natives of Indianapolis deem important. So it’s a way for me to learn more about Indianapolis and all these places, but it also gives other out-of-towners a chance to learn about all these different places that they’ve probably never been to.”
