IN Covers - Featuring Mina & the Wondrous Flying Machine / Brandon Whyde

IN Covers is a program designed to instill pride in Indiana music and create meaningful work for local musicians. For going on six years now, MFT has produced and released songs on our archive and blog. IN Covers features Indiana musicians celebrating our great state’s music by covering another Hoosier band or artist of their choice. With thousands of listens and downloads, these projects push participating musicians’ creative boundaries and help music lovers discover great new IN music. AND, MFT pays for the recording at no cost to the band!

After over a year off, we are excited to bring back MFT’s IN Covers series! This new installment features Mina and the Wondrous Flying Machine covering a previously unreleased song by Indiana songwriter Brandon Whyde. M&TWFM are a piano driven group that blends indie rock and jazz led by singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Mina Keohane and backed by Charlie Ballantine, Jess Whittman, Josh Silbert, and Ryan Koch.

“I first heard this song of Brandon Whyde’s from a facebook video years ago, and it's still one of my favorite songs of his. The lyrics are so visceral and full of imagery, and they really resonated with me. That's why I was moved to cover it.

Brandon has never recorded this song, allegedly because he's still tweaking it, but he gave Mina permission to put her spin on it. Over the years Mina has heard him play it live with different lyrics, and he has even incorporated an old spiritual with it as well. “I still really relate to this original set of lyrics, so I stayed true to that. I just arranged it more for what the Wondrous Flying Machine does musically.
